Northern Horizons is a social enterprise, working to empower, inspire, educate and build partnerships within the North West Region. The main focus of Northern Horizons is suicide prevention, intervention and post-vention. While conducting business Northern Horizons will ensure that money from the training stays within social service agencies and in the communities to further enhance and develop services.
Northern Horizons currently offers five different workshops through contracts. ASIST: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is a two-day workshop. This workshop teaches participants the skills needed to do suicide first aid. This workshop gives caregivers the tools to provide immediate intervention, and keep the person at risk safe for now. safeTALK is a Suicide Alertness Training for community members. This is either a half day or full day workshop. This workshop provided caregivers with the skills to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and the connecting them with someone who is ASIST trained. The 'ASK' workshop (Assessing for Suicide in Kids), is a one day workshop that focus on provided suicide intervention to children between the ages of 5-14. MHFA Basic is intended for adults interacting with adults (18 years and older). This courses focuses on the four most common mental health disorders including substance related, mood related, anxiety and trauma related, and psychotic disorders. We also offer compassion fatigue workshop designed to meet the specific needs of participants.
